FAQ |
| What
is podcasting? "Podcasting" is the process of making audio and media files (most commonly in MP3 format) available online in a way that allows software to automatically download the files for listening or viewing at the user's convenience. Podcasts are indexed and tracked by means of RSS files. |
| How Do I Download a Podcast? You can simply access the URL of the MP3 or audio file that you desire and save it to a local directory on your computer. Play the file in your default player (commonly iTunes). Once the file has completed playing, you can connect your iPod or similar device and perform the "Update Songs" command. To actually become a true Podcast, software is available that allows you to manage and your RSS feeds. This software will automatically check to see if a media file has been updated and download the new version. Programs such as iPodder and jPodder, open-source distribution programs will perform the Podcasting management for you. |
| What is RSS? Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an XML-based format for content distribution. Media can be made portable to many devices by placing the appropriate meta information within the RSS file. |
